Partners in Flight is proud to highlight a newly accepted paper by five Colombian ornithologists that brings a refreshing, solutions‑focused perspective to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in Neotropical ornithology. The authors write that “collaborative, diverse and inclusive science is critical for effective conservation,” noting that equitable governance and co‑produced knowledge consistently lead to stronger and more durable conservation outcomes. Their contribution, part of the Partners in Flight International Science Committee: Migratory Bird Conservation Tools and Applications special feature, distills what is working across the region, offering a clear-eyed look at progress while calling for deeper individual and institutional commitment.

The Partners in Flight Landbird Conservation Plan: 2016 Revision for Canada and Continental United States identified species of high conservation concern and established measurable short- and longer-term population trend objectives. Those objectives were intended to do more than describe a desired future. They were designed to help partners evaluate whether conservation actions were making a difference. Now, nearly a decade later, a new paper in Avian Conservation and Ecology asks a critical question: are Watch List species on track?

Partners in Flight (PIF) Science Committee currently has over 10 manuscripts in review for a Special Feature in Avian Conservation and Ecology featuring the committee’s migratory bird conservation tools and applications. The Special Feature’s opening essay was published in late January 2026 and outlines PIF’s history, broad direct and indirect impacts, and PIF Science’s call to action to come together across the bird conservation community. 

From October 21–24, 2025, conservation leaders from across the Western Hemisphere gathered in Helena, Montana, for the Partners in Flight Western Working Group (WWG) Fall Meeting. With over 100 participants joining in person and virtually, the gathering showcased the power of collaboration, science-driven strategies, and community-rooted conservation.

Este documento es una guía para la conservación de aves terrestres, el cual ofrece novedades en sus evaluaciones y herramientas, así como recomendaciones para abordar las amenazas continentales que pueden ser de apoyo para revertir la disminución y el riesgo de las poblaciones a largo plazo.

The Partners in Flight (PIF) team presents to the Spanish-speaking ornithological community a translated version that compiles key sections from the Partners in Flight Landbird Conservation Plan (2016). This document serves as a strategic guide for the conservation of terrestrial birds at the continental level, offering innovations in priority assessments, planning tools, and recommendations to address shared threats that impact birds over the long term.

The San Pancho Bird Observatory (OASP) is an organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats in the San Pancho region of Nayarit, Mexico. This initiative originated from the San Pancho Birding Club (2007-2010), which organized educational birdwatching tours for school students. This club played a crucial role in introducing local communities to sustainable birdwatching, later encouraging the participation of both national and international visitors.

Amazilias is a network of women dedicated to nature and empowerment through birdwatching, bringing together over 160 participants across the country. The network is designed to promote and highlight the efforts and strengths of women and girls through various forms of expression, including art, politics, social integrity in communities, teaching, and, most prominently, science. The Center for Ornithology and Biodiversity (CORBIDI), through its project “Urban Birds of Lima,” has joined forces to pave an inclusive path in birdwatching, and promote access to this activity for visually impaired people in Peru. In collaboration with the Rehabilitation Center for the Blind in Lima (CERCIL) and the Pantanos de Villa wetlands municipal administration, CORBIDI demonstrates that a love for nature and conservation can unite people of all abilities, fostering an inclusive vision of biodiversity.

The XXI Congreso para el Estudio y Conservación de las Aves en México (XXI CECAM), held in late September 2024 in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, México, provided an opportunity to present the family of Miguel Angel Cruz-Nieto, from Monterrey, México, with a posthumous Individual 2023 Partners in Flight David N. Pashley Lifetime Achievement Award. The award ceremony followed a keynote address about PIF, and was preceded by a PIF symposium and roundtable discussion.
