For our 30th anniversary, the Partners in Flight Steering Committee launched a long and short-term visioning exercise to consider obstacles and opportunities for bird conservation. Our target was to identify how the steering committee can ensure that Partners in Flight continues as a driving force in bird conservation into the future.

Calling all bird lovers! We need everyone who cares about birds to rally together for the passage of the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act. With historic levels of funding and support from both sides of the aisle, this once-in-a-generation legislation is a rare bird. Join us as we flock together in support of this critical bill, which will help protect birds long into the future and make the enjoyment of birds more accessible for all!

Thank you to everyone that attended the Forest for the Birds webinar series. This 12-part lecture series addresses the 50-year decline of 3 billion birds through partnerships, conservation science, and forest management. The series told a compelling story about forest bird population declines, partnership opportunities, and forest management actions that can support bird population recovery and sustainability.

Partners in Flight is co-hosting a World Migratory World Day Event with Klamath Bird Observatory. This special holiday animation workshop will be fun for the whole family. It will be led by Larry Leichliter, former PEANUTS director, and accomplished animator. The workshop will offer a live-action tutorial, teaching participants to create a simple animation of Snoopy, the lovable canine character from the PEANUTS cartoon, and his feather pal Woodstock. This World Migratory Bird Day event will be held via Zoom on December 16, 2021, at 5:30 PM Pacific Standard Time.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Urban Bird Treaty Program supports public-private partnerships in U.S. cities that are working to make local communities healthier places for birds and people. In Portland, Oregon, Urban Bird Treaty Program partners are modeling “What it Takes to Develop a Bird-Safe City.” Learn more about the Urban Bird Treaty program and get ready to get involved as the #BigYearAtHome Team gears up for our November #UrbanBirdTreaty challenge!

Autumn migration is the first major challenge in the life cycle of migratory birds as young birds leave their nests and make their first flights to wintertime places where they have never been before. For our October #BigYearAtHome challenge we invite you to come together as a part of World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) to celebrate this phenomenon of migration around the world. In October, WMBD will take us to sites where our shared birds stop to rest and refuel and to the places where they breed. Join the WMBD community at BIRD DAY LIVE (www.birddaylive.com)!

Ottawa, Neal Smith and Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuges, as well as the La Crosse District of Upper Mississippi River National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, will be receiving funds for the Interior Great Lakes Region billion bird-friendly facility challenge.
