Through the Partners in Flight Awards, PIF has been recognizing outstanding individuals and groups for their exceptional contributions to the field of landbird conservation since 1996. The 2020 PIF Awards, sponsored by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, were presented on March 11, 2021 at the 86th North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference. Sonoran Joint Venture partner Terra Peninsular is the recipient of the 2019 PIF Group Stewardship Award. Based in Ensenada, Baja California, Terra Penninsular is dedicated to protecting the ecosystems and landscapes of the Baja California Peninsula, as well as in Sonora and Sinaloa states. Through direct land protection, adaptive management, bird monitoring and conservation planning, sustainable tourism, and community engagement, Terra Peninsular has worked to protect the unique birds and habitats of the region by working directly with local communities.
