In this article, Chuck Hunter offers his perspectives on the beginnings and evolution of the species vulnerability assessment developed by Partners in Flight. As an avid birder and curious naturalist from a young age, Chuck’s interest in rarity and vulnerability of species was formed early. From graduate school studies in the desert southwest to a range of positions with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Chuck provides us his unique perspective about species vulnerability and the people who helped shape his, and Partners in Flight’s thinking on it.
