Understanding Declines of the Rusty Blackbird

This document describes a cross-seasonal and comprehensive research program to develop the information to understand the causes and ecological significance of Rusty Blackbird declines. This information and the future information gathered by long-term monitoring programs are critical to developing on-the-ground conservation strategies and management programs to stem the rapid decline of this species. The research and monitoring program is designed to obtain critically-needed information in three different areas: 1) basic ecology and natural history; 2) the effects of specific possible causes for declines; and 3) the most efficacious survey techniques and monitoring program.
