Over the three years since the EWG was formed, it has strived to be a unifying and organizing force for bird conservation in eastern North America, especially for broad-ranging issues spanning the borders and boundaries of our existing organizations, partnerships, and jurisdictions. Our three focal teams engage multiple partners and work toward full annual cycle conservation, science delivery, and data management. Two EWG virtual meetings have been both informative and led to new initiatives. This will be a working meeting with the bulk of our time devoted to advancing the ongoing work of existing EWG teams and species-specific working groups. |
|
We acknowledge the convenience of virtual meetings but are prioritizing the benefits and capacity of an in-person meeting to foster presence and direct engagement. |

Anyone interested in “keeping common birds common and helping species at risk” is welcome to attend. This includes members of EWG focal team ,single- species working groups, and other partners interested in advancing and participating in the ongoing work of the EWG. Specific time will be focused on the following initiatives of the three focal teams: Data Management (facilitate data sharing across different platforms), Full Annual Cycle Conservation (non-breeding conservation strategies; conservation of migratory stopover habitat), and Science Delivery (reducing barriers to eastern forest management beneficial to birds, plus a new group focused on working grasslands). We hope to leave Nashville with concrete next steps for all these teams , and the energy to work toward further implementation. There will also be dedicated time for species working group members to meet, learn from each other, and explore opportunities for collaboration and effective species conservation in today’s conservation landscape. |

We are planning for this meeting to be 2 ½ days, with a half day on January 12. At this time, we do not anticipate charging a registration fee. A detailed agenda and logistical details on the venue, lodging recommendations, and meal arrangements during the meeting will be coming soon. Please help us estimate need for accommodations and child care by RSVPing below: |

In the spirit of a confluence, we’ll be cooperatively developing an agenda designed to bring together EWG focal areas through a series of virtual meetings leading up to the Nashville Gathering. If you would like to help develop this work (even if you cannot attend the Confluence), contact the leads for each of the groups: |

If your species working group would like time to meet during this confluence and to participate in conversations with other species working groups, please contact Randy Dettmers. You can also contact Randy with any other questions about the meeting. |
