World Migratory Bird Day is Partner’s in Flight’s keystone education program. Created in 1993, it connects people to the phenomenon of bird migrations through on-the-ground events, programs, and festivals. It serves as a call to action for the protection of birds by sharing information about threats to birds and the simple actions people can take to help protect birds. World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is coordinated by Environment for the Americas in collaboration with partners and sponsors across the globe.
In 2020, the World Migratory Bird Day theme is Birds Connect Our World. We are connected by bird migrations and the role we play in their protection. No matter how distant we may be from one another, our combined actions determine the survival of these long distance migrants. This year, we explore the tracking technologies that help us to discover migratory routes and provide information about how, especially during a time when our movements are stilled because of a pandemic, our actions across the Americas are critical to the protection of migratory birds.
