Southwest Warbler Working Group
Western Working Group
Southwest warblers are amongst the least studied birds in North America. Additionally, populations for most are declining, or suspected to be declining, and some, like the Grace’s Warbler, have lost approximately half of their global population since the 1960s.
Vision:
Conservation needs for southwest warblers in North America are fully understood, and conservation practitioners and diverse communities collaboratively conserve them throughout their full life cycle, resulting in stable or increasing populations and healthy ecosystems.
Mission:
The Southwest Warbler Working Group will equitably engage communities to fill critical research gaps and develop, share, and implement conservation strategies for southwest warblers and their habitats.
Focal Species:
- Black-throated Gray Warbler (where it occurs in the Southwest)
- Grace’s Warbler
- Lucy’s Warbler
- Painted Redstart
- Red-faced Warbler
- Virginia’s Warbler
Members:
The Southwest Warbler Working Group is open to all that want to help attain our vision and mission! Current members include individuals from the U.S. federal government, numerous U.S. state governments, U.S. NGO organizations, and individuals interested in southwest warbler conservation. We are seeking new members, especially from Mexico.
